Well, here's my first post. I'm going to use this blog to give others insight into my work process, keep a record of that progress myself, and to keep myself productive.

Here's the original sketch, drawn on paper with a mechanical pencil and scanned in at 600 dpi. When I'm bored, I tend to draw zombies, so there you go. The end result will be somewhat inspired by old-school D&D art. Pen and ink, possibly with halftone screen used to provide gray tones.

After scanning in the sketch, I "inked" it in Painter IX. I use kind of a mix of pen and ink and scratchboard techniques. I changed the polearm thing to a big frickin' axe after watching a History Channel documentary on axes in a hotel room in Reno. The axe shape is roughly that of a viking axe, though the viking weapons were generally much smaller. I really like how the chest plate is shaping up, but I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with the background.
